Speaking with neighbours during confinement and word order is important.
Today we chatted with our neighbor Steve through the hedge. He was out gardening as I imagine lots of people are at this time in order to keep busy. Hi Steve!
Yesterday we spoke on the phone. We agreed that we'd call frequently during this period of confinement. He's the person I mentioned earlier who sailed in a race to Saint Lucia last fall.
He speaks English but at times there is confusion. EM and still remember the first time we sailed with him and a storm was coming. He was yelling at us to turn the lock! Neither of us could figure out what he meant was so we both just stood there. He was getting more and more anxious, until finally he came to the front of the boat and closed the hatch which was just in front of us. We docked and all was fine. It was only a couple of years ago that he confessed to us that he realises now that he barely knew how to sail back then. Good thing we knew even less!
The point of this is that yesterday he said something that I was not clear about it so I asked him to clarify. He thanked me and said, 'You know today the kids say that when you're learning a language the order of the words does not matter, it's more important that you just speak.' He said he remembers something he said to me years ago (which I probably killed myself laughing at) and uses it as an example today. 'Word order does matters. If I say: 'I don't want to see those f...king people.' Or I say: ' I don't want to see those people f...king.' The meaning is quite different'. This is typical Matti.
So what's new in France with Covid-19? Some cities are putting cerfews in place in addition to lockdown. In those cites, like Nice, after 8pm no one is allowed out except authorized people: police, ambulance, caregivers, etc.
Just so you know, I did get my GT last night.... and EM his Old Fashioned.
Here's something light and cheery to end with. This is my Equine Podiatry colleague Alessio in Italy where things are MUCH worse. Thank you Alessio!!
I just had to take his photo because it reminded me of Mr Wilson. Remember him from Home Improvement?
Humour is one thing that is free and available. We surely need it at this time, so I copied in some conversations between Tim and Mr Wilson.
Not being able to run my 10k is making me antsy so we went for a walk this afternoon - with our authorisations in hand of course. I think we went more than 2kms. Nonetheless, it was important to see if there were any fish in the Rosay. There were, and big ones. They must know that the fishing season is closed for the moment. Even though, the sun was not out, everything is so green. It's lovely. Cold wind though. F...king Putin (from Russia) wind as my friend Matti from Finland says. Finnish people don't mince words.
I've known Matti since I was 17. We met in Majorca when I was on a HS trip. He saved me on the dance floor from a bunch of persistant navy guys. At that time, he looked like this and me like this (where did that chest go?). Needless to say, we don't look the same now, but we are still good friends. In fact, probably better friends that ever.
