I got a text msg from the President this morning!
True, but I think everyone in France did.
Telling us that we are now in confinement for at least the next 15 days. If we need to go out to work because working for home is not possible, we need an authorization from our employer. If we need to go to the store or any other necessary errand, we need to fill out a form that we can show to the police should they stop us. Being out without the necessary document will get you a fine.
EM and I think that there will be lots of new babies in 9 months and probably a few divorces before that.
Apparently, some people are upset that the government had their number. In fact, they didn't. The government asked the telephone companies to send it out to their customers.
This morning started out as usual. I had to make the bed. Just realize that under this is Catherine snoring.
Emmanuel had his first full day of work from home. Can any of you spot something different about him? I'm offering a hand made kleenex holder to the first person who spots it.
He told me this morning we could play cards during the next 2 weeks. He never wants to play cards...hmm.
It's been a lovely chatty day. My friend from Finland, Matti, called to chat. He was on a racing boat last fall from the Canary Islands to Saint Lucia. We chatted about ocean sailing. We agreed to call often during these weeks of the virus.
Then Kelsey suggested we Face Time. We had a nice chat about many things including eustation tubes. Did you know that low estragen makes your tubes dry and brittle? And I'm not just talking eustations tubes. Kelsey opened my eyes to a couple of things I've noticed lately that were dry and I'd wondered why.
It's so great to talk to people. I propose that we all take time to catch up of the next few weeks!
In other news, eXXpedition is on hold due to the virus.
The boat is currently on its way to Tahiti.
I saw a post from a girl from France who was already in Tahiti waiting for her leg to begin in Tahiti. She's a graphic artist and had planned to do a voyage journal. She'd booked events at schools and was to meet with the media, etc. Yesterday she got the news that Tahiti is also going into lockdown. She's got a flight home on Saturday. Here's the annoucement from eXXpedition:
With a heavy heart and given the unprecedented impact of COVID-19 I’m writing to tell you that it is now clear that Legs 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 of eXXpedition Round the World will not be able to go ahead on the planned dates. Legs 14 onwards are being reviewed.
We are doing all we can to consolidate the information available, adapt and set out a rescheduled itinerary for the voyages. Setting out a new plan for these voyage legs to take place later in the year is not as straightforward as just delaying the boat for a certain number of months because of the annual weather windows (e.g. cyclone seasons). We want to get a new schedule to you as soon as possible and need some time to research the options, feasibility and get approval from the boat’s insurers.
We will have a plan over to you on or before 24th March 2020.
I am on leg 16. I haven't bought my on boat insurance yet or my trip home. The trip itself is almost all paid for. However, it was going to be a stretch to pay the rest by mid May (the deadline). The bright side is, now I have more time.
We are so lucky. After almost being under water a week ago, we're now having dry sunny weather.
Beautiful blue skies with no planes in them.
Nature must be so happy we are stuck inside!
