Boat Refit for Exxpedition
exxpedition.com
While waiting to hear if I'd get a spot on the Exxpedition, I responded to their request for volunteers to help with the boat refit. I decided to go for a couple of weeks, because if nothing else I would have contributed my time to the trip.
The boat was out of the water in Southampton in June when I went and was to be sanded so new paint could be applied. In fact, it was inside that huge tent thing n the photo above at Shamrock Quay. She was actually under plastic sheets inside that big tent. See below.
The work was being directed by Anna Strang, who is the Exxpedition boat captain! As my two weeks went by girls came and went. Sanding all day long was not an easy job.
These photos will give you an idea.
I met some great people: Anna, Libby, Roxy, Elinor, Laura, Shanelle, Victoria. I ate some really bad food: chips, cookies, milk chocolate, and a pototo chip sandwich! I had to try it. I recommend salt and vinegar or prawn cocktail chips.
In spite of it being hard work, it was very rewarding. Photos of the bow after our sanding and after the repaint.

I went back again for a couple of days in September. This time she was in Plymouth to have the propeller remounted. She was looking much more like she was ready to sail.
