I am very lucky to have inherited lots of tea towels from my husband's family. I've faithfully kept them stored away until I realized last year that I could resue them to make other things.
I started by making produce bags for myself and then for Christmas presents. We had have started buying tissues or Kleenex in boxes instead of packages to avoid plastic but that's not pratical when you're out walking. I'd been thinking about how to deal with this when a recent run really got me moving on the idea. Maybe it was because I'd been thinking about it, I started seeing more and more of these disgarded along my running route.
So I had a look and found that it's not so hard to make cloth covers for tissues. And as I have all this material hanging around, I started seeing how I could use it. Here are the results. My first two. Yesterday my husband asked me if I could make a smaller one that he could slip into his jacket pocket at work. So, even he's convinced!! I have to say, I don't have a sewing machine. I sew by hand. I am now forever greatful to the ladies with the quilting group at the Huntsville, Ontario Canada pioneer museum for letting me 'stitch' along with them as a young'un.
